a tiny scrap of paper

I take the trains all over the place and each day I learn new things about the psychology of my fellow train riders. Today I learned something new and I’d like to share it with you.

I got on the train at Chiba, the Sobu line, headed for Tokyo. I sat in the end seat, the one closest by the door. Next to me, there was an empty seat, empty all except for a tiny scrap of paper. I barely even noticed it. I settled in and started reading a book.

Art School at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya

C. C. Deville has a venue named after him in Tokyo!? I wish. Nah, it’s C. C. Lemon, the lemony soft drink that has Homer Simpson as it’s mascot (not Mr. Sparkle either, doesn’t really exist you nerds).

And, here’s the reason I went: A friend who knows the band keeps getting me free tickets and inviting me and I keep saying I’ll go and then something comes up and I never do. This happened time and time again, for legitimate reasons mind you, and finally there was a time when it didn’t happen and I went.

Deep Fry It!

I’ve just had one of the eating experiences of a lifetime. In Japan, imagine that! It’s a restaurant called “kushi-ya” (spelled 串屋) and it’s amazing and I’m going to tell you why-

In the middle of each table is a deep fryer. I shit you not. You go up and get sticks with meat, vegetables, and other assorted things, then you dip them in and deep fry them yourself. You also get little floury stuff to roll them in to get them good and fried. It is absolutely incredibly, sitting there with 5 sticks in the deep fryer listening to them sizzle, getting hit with drops of grease flying everywhere.. it was definitely one of the best times of my life recently (more…)

Fear And Trembling At The Convenience Store

I went to the convenience store to buy a beer before the show. There was a guy at the counter buying something. A girl stood off a ways. She was watching the guy. She had nothing in her hands. She wasn’t standing behind him at all. I thought maybe she was waiting for him.

I stood back a ways in case she was in line and just standing off a ways. The guy got his change and left and she stayed there. I looked at her. She stood still. She didn’t step up to the counter, nor even move.
