I Am Not A Drum Whore; I Am Not A Drum Whore; I Am Not A …

It looks like for the December 16th Dogs show at Shinjuku Jam, I’ll be playing drums with the Factotums (in addition to Snazz playing). It’s just for this one show, I’M NOT A DRUM WHORE GODDAMIT!!! (my Denver friends snicker) because the band disintegrated last year, with one member being institutionalized and another having a nervous breakdown.. not because of playing in Factotums, I hope, but whatever.. Anyway, it’s sort of a pick up band right now with me, a new bassist, and the guitarist who replaced the guy who went insane. The details are hazy and who cares anyway, it should be fun. No, it WILL be fun, we’ll make it fun. That’s what it’s all about. And yeah, it’s double duty, but they’ll both be short sets. That show, the Sunday night one, is when the Dogs are supposed to be playing 2 sets, and so all the other bands will play short sets. I’m pretty excited, it’s only weeks away and the biggest upcoming event in the near future of My Life. (more…)

Rock N Roll Beer Belly

The Stems show was great… my first time to play at Shimokitazawa Shelter, the first place I ever saw a show in Tokyo… ah so many years ago, way back in the day… okay only three years, but it seems like longer. Shit, am I from America? I don’t even remember. I gotta go back a ways…

Nah, it was a good time. The sound at the Shelter is great, I didn’t have to try to stammer my way through some painful Japanese to get the soundfolks to raise or lower anything… the new snare drum worked great, which means it is not broken. While I was watching the drummer from Stems play I was thinking, That snare head is pretty worn and it still sounds great, I’ve got at least two or three more shows before mine is totally fucked. It’s a sign of aging I guess.. I’ve started caring about the condition of my gear. I want it to last longer than next week. (more…)

Catching Up

Dear Blog,

It’s been a while since I wrote to ya. How ya been? Me? I’m fine. I got news, though. See, we’re gonna have a kid. That’s right, our very own child to control and feed until it’s old enough to control and feed itself. Anyway, I promise not to turn this into a corny blog about my child, since having a kid is one of the most ordinary things humans do, and it’s really boring for everybody else even though YOU think it’s really exciting. But, yeah. A kid. Moving on…

Before I get on to my wild rock and roll life and all the exciting adventures that happen to me daily, I want to share a bit of dull mundane day-to-day married and living in suburbia life with you. The subject is, ugh, (more…)
