Japanese TV Drinking Games

May 20, 2008, 3:42 pm

Take a big drink whenever…

- Somebody’s eating. Or better yet… whenever somebody says “oishii!” You can make a separate rule for “umai” or when that fat guys says “mai-u!”

- Two or more people say the same thing at the same time.

- You hear a mangled or strangely used English word/phrase. This game would be tough to play after a while since you get used to it. Look for things like, “GET!” or “Inspire the next!”

- Somebody smacks somebody else on the head (whether or not they say “obei ka” or not). This game should be played during variety shows or whenever comedians are assembled.

After 9 hours (give or take) of banging drums and walking up and down huge hills (to and from the studio)… it’s tough. But you get used to it. Some people take the train that far everyday to and from their grey office buildings. Then again, they are maniacs.

Now, by train line: (more…)

The Studio

May 16, 2008, 3:15 pm

Recording is either 1) the most awesome thing in the fucking universe, or 2) a terrible stress on your body, mind and personal relationships. At best it’s making a digital disc containing all the cool shit you and your good friends came up with. At worst, it’s hitting a snare drum for twenty minutes while the engineer “tweaks” shit, or playing the same goddam song over and over again until you never wanna hear it again… then going into the control room to … hear it again. Ugh.

Nah, what am I complaining about, it’s great fun, way cooler than working. “I can’t complain but sometimes I do…” who said that? Oh yeah, Joe Walsh. Well, he was onto something there. It’s great but it can be tedious, that’s it I guess. Like touring, studio work is one of the reasons rock stars do drugs. (more…)
